Happy Autumn!

Has this been a hot summer – or what!!! I hope you enjoyed the unusual abundance of sunny New England days. The pond at the farm is totally dry, and has been since early August (which has made it hard to water my large vegetable garden!). It was a very poor haying season - the second cutting was virtually nonexistent. I am really looking forward to some serious rain.

A number of my fall paintings are on display at the Floral Arts Gallery in Westford. Stop in and see them! This charming gallery is a must-see.

The annual Beaver Brook Fall Festival in Hollis, NH is October 2 & 3 (Sat & Sun, 10:00-5:00); it has three of my paintings in the art exhibit in their wonderful old barn at Maple Hill Farm. They have lots of events going on during the weekend, check out their web site for more information. Beaver Brook This is one of my favorite hiking areas and has been the inspiration for a number of my paintings.

I have painted several times en plein air at the Chelmsford Farmers’ Market this year, along with other members of the Chelmsford Art Society. Our paintings will be in an exhibit entitled “Seen at the Farmers’ Market”, at the old Chelmsford Town Hall November 7 - 28 (open Sundays 2-4 pm). Chelmsford Center for the Arts.

I recently exhibited at the Covered Bridge Festival in Pepperell, to celebrate the Opening of the new covered bridge. This is a beautiful bridge, if you haven’t seen it yet, it is a spectacular view against the autumn foliage! I am fortunate to live less than a quarter of a mile from it. There is a new park next to it where one can walk around and take pictures of this historic area. I have note cards for sale in boxed sets of three Pepperell scenes, including the old covered bridge, at the nearby Covered Bridge Country Store.

Grotonfest this year was on a beautiful day in September and it was very well attended. I did a demonstration of plein air painting there. My booth was next to the old Legion Hall, so I painted a picture of that building, with other vendors and patrons in the foreground.

This fall finds me and my fellow local artists once again attending the advanced watercolor workshop with Nancy Russo in Westford. It is always enjoyable and inspiring to paint with other artists, especially while learning new watercolor techniques – of which there is apparently no end!

Thank You & Exhibit Updates

Thank you to everyone who has attended my art exhibit at The Floral Arts Gallery in Westford. It is my pleasure to share my artwork with you and I appreciate your interest! The exhibit has been extended and will be on view throughout July.

The annual Chelmsford Art Society’s July 4th art show had three of my paintings in it, “Railroad Square, Pepperell”, “Up North”, and “Full Moon Over Camden, Maine”. The Chelmsford Center for the Arts currently has two of my paintings, “Solidarity,” and “Long May It Wave” in their “Sweet Land of Liberty" show July 2 through August 1. This show is in the old Chelmsford Town Hall, and is open Sundays 2-4 pm, and Thursdays 2-6 pm during the Chelmsford Farmers’ Market. I will paint en plein air at the Chelmsford Farmers’ Market during some Thursdays this summer, with other members of the Chelmsford Art Society. The paintings will be exhibited late this fall.

I currently have a watercolor painting, “After the Gloaming” on display in the Fitchburg Art Museum’s Regional Art Show, until September 5, 2010. “Camper Bear” will be on display at the Design at 639 Gallery, at 639 Main St., Fitchburg, also until September 5, 2010.

I recently went to Maine for a 3-day water-media workshop with artist Carlton Plummer. It was held at the Harlow gallery in Hallowell Maine where he was having an impressive 50-year retrospective of his artwork. I enjoyed it and I learned a lot; it was fun to try some new techniques. In addition, I visited his studio and gallery in Boothbay Maine before returning home, and also enjoyed seeing his wife Joan’s artwork and his son Gerry’s stone sculptures.

Looking forward to some cooler weather! I will be at Grotonfest this year. I will have my booth set up and I will be painting there. It will be held on September 11, 2010 (rain date is Sept. 12).

April Flowers

A floral-themed art exhibit, “TheCCA in Bloom,” is presently at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts. One of my watercolors, “Garden Pathway” is on exhibit there. The CCA is located in the Old Town Hall at 1A North Road in Chelmsford, MA. Show dates are April 9 through May 2; the Gallery is open Sundays, 2:00 – 4:00, and the first Friday of each month, 5:30 – 7:30. Click on above link to view upcoming exhibits at the CCA.

On display at The Floral Arts Gallery on Rte 110 in Westford, are some of my spring-themed paintings. Come visit this charming gallery!

I am currently working on a series of local Pepperell scenes. One of these acrylic paintings: “Railroad Square, Pepperell”, which includes the town clock and Kemp’s Service Station, was exhibited in March at the annual Westford Regional Art Exhibit. I recently completed a spring scene of one of Pepperell’s brick schoolhouses: “Schoolhouse District Number 4”, which was built in 1750. Currently I am working on another brick building: “Schoolhouse District Number 3”, which was built in 1844. In my spare time, I am also working on some new watercolors.

Cupcake Anyone?!

If you missed the Great Chelmsford Cupcake Festival on February 13, you can still see the great Cupcake Art Exhibit! It is in the Old Town Hall at 1A North Road in Chelmsford, MA. This event is sponsored by the Chelmsford Center for the Arts.

My painting, “Kick Ass Cupcake” is on display until March 6, 2010. It was inspired by a treat brought home for me by my daughter last year from a bakery in Somerville, named (what else?) Kick Ass Cupcakes. Kick Ass Cupcakes. The bakery uses “only the best all natural ingredients” - these are not your average cupcakes!

Exhibit dates are February 13 – March 6, 2010.

Lots of snow and cold weather so far this winter! I am enjoying the New England weather from inside as I paint in my newly refinished and snug studio, not too far from the woodstove…

Happy painting!
